I am a nurse in a busy cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, where the buzzing and humming of many machines often presents a challenge when I am trying to hear lung, heart and belly sounds. As an anesthesiologist, I use my stethoscope dozens of times a day. I started using the Littmann 3000 Series six months ago. It wasn’t until I began the two week free trial of this scope that I became aware of the limitations of my previous scope. The 3000 Series is ideal for an anesthesiologist because the operating room and preoperative areas, the two places where I most frequently use my scope, are noisy environments. For example, there is constant conversation between surgeons, nurses and anesthesiologists. In addition, surgical equipment and anesthesia monitors make loud buzzing and beeping sounds. Sometimes music is even being played. Because of this background noise, the ambient noise reduction feature of the 3000 Series is very beneficial. This scope definitely helps me pick up subtle, critical changes in breath sounds, as well as murmurs and signs of congestive heart failure.

I am a pediatric nurse practitioner and work in a school-based setting that is often extremely noisy. Electronic stethoscopes have improved dramatically in the past few years. I have been using a stethoscope for over 30 years and I was not always able to hear all heart sounds clearly. About two years ago I heard about the Littmann 3000 Series after attending a human cardiology conference, and what a difference it’s made in my practice! With the Ambient Noise Reduction (ANR) technology of the 3000 Series, there is now a marked reduction in unwanted ambient noise that is extremely helpful when I listen for abnormal heart sounds. This new technology applies quite well to veterinary medicine as the amplification of sounds is very useful for the different species and breeds, and switching between bell and diaphragm is also very easy to do. I have evaluated the 3M Littmann 3000 Series Stethoscope for the past few months, and have found it to be superior to other stethoscopes I have used in the past. The sound amplification allows me to hear the very faint wheezes and crackles that I could not hear with a conventional stethoscope. It is also easier to hear the faint systolic and diastolic blood pressure sounds during a stress test.

The 3000 Series beats other stethoscopes I’ve used hands down; its acoustics, ergonomics and versatility are superb. As a paramedic and nursing student working in harsh, noisy environments – ambulances and hospitals – I need a rugged stethoscope that filters out as much noise as possible while being versatile enough to fit many situations and sizes of people. Working in these settings, I need any edge I can get, and the 3000 Series clearly gives me an edge. Just the other day, I had a patient’s family member in the hospital room talking as I was listening to the patient’s lungs, and I couldn’t even hear the family member. By blocking out this distracting noise, the 3000 Series allowed me to fully concentrate on the patient’s sounds I needed to hear – that was a first for me! Additionally, I’ve used the 3000 Series to treat patients ranging from neonates to adults, and have experienced the same great quality no matter which type of patient I’ve treated. As a hearing-impaired pediatrician whose hearing loss is in the range where children speak, I had long been searching for a stethoscope to meet my needs. Enter the Littmann 3000 Series! This stethoscope makes hearing children’s cardiac and respiratory sounds much easier for me due to its excellent amplification and ambient noise reduction technology. In my busy pediatric practice there are often little children running around causing excessive background noise that can hinder my ability to hear well, but this stethoscope really eliminates that noise and makes my job a whole lot easier. As a nursing student, I understand the necessity of being able to clearly hear breath and heart sounds. Les bruits ambiants ne sont pas uniquement dans l’air, ils se propagent à l’intérieur du corps du patient. Le système de réduction des bruits ambiants s’attaque à ces deux sources de nuisances acoustiques, sans éliminer les sons importants. Les bruits en provenance de la pièce pénètrent le stéthoscope par un minuscule orifice dans le pavillon et une fois à l’intérieur, s'annulent lorsqu'ils rencontrent les sons provenants du corps.
